The Missoulian hasn’t received direct and detailed word on this yet, but according to Bob Dylan’s Web site, he’ll be playing Ogren Park, home of the Missoula Osprey, on August 31. Word has it he’ll appear with John Mellencamp, whose own tour site appears to confirm the show as well.

Fans of the band Sublime may be surprised to hear that the band is coming to Missoula — after all, the band broke up in 1996 after lead singer Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose. But now, the band has reformed with a new lead singer, Rome Ramirez, and is touring under the moniker Sublime with Rome (the clunkier name was apparently required as the result of a lawsuit by Nowell’s family). Here’s the press release for the show… [Read More...]

This Thursday night, Great American Taxi returns to Missoula for a free performance at Downtown ToNight in Caras Park. The band, built around picking extraordinaire Vince Herman (formerly of Leftover Salmon), was one of last year’s headliners at the River City Roots Festival — and was supposed to be one of the headliners the previous year, but for a power outage that pretty much killed their performance. Apparently in Billings, the sight of a tornado just doesn’t faze people much. Check out all these drive-by dingdongs casually cruising past right next to the Metra as its roof flies in circles overhead.

In the fifteen years since she burst onto the national scene with her debut album, “Pieces of You,” Jewel Kilcher – known to most simply by her first name – has consistently borne out the metaphor of her given name: A sparkling gem of a singer; a multifaceted artist. Initially lumped in with the late-90s boom of sweet-voiced folk singers, Jewel has repeatedly shifted her focus, producing everything from children’s music to country albums, pop and holiday tunes – not to mention a New York Times bestselling book of poetry and a few turns on the silver screen.
The breadth of Jewel’s musical identity is captured on her new double-album, “Sweet and Wild” – released earlier this month. The first disc of the album features eleven new tunes, all dressed up in snappy pop-country frills. The second disc features those same eleven tunes, performed solo by Jewel. The result is a record that should please both her early folk-scene fans, and come-lately fans of Nashville’s new starlet.
As she prepares to visit Missoula for a solo concert at the Wilma Theatre, the Missoulian caught up with Jewel for a chat about her chameleon career and creative inspiration. [Read More...]

Last week, the Missoulian ran a feature about a local band that won $25,000 in the Folger’s Coffee “Best Part of Waking Up” jingle contest. This Thursday night, June 17, you can hear the band (formerly known as What Rhymes with Oranges; now the Ethan Thompson Project) in person when they perform at [...]

I received a press release this morning that takes the cake for overwrought run-on madness. Check out that opening sentence:
With the breaking news that in the early morning hours, an often married high-profile chef was the first call a drunken ‘starlet” made after smashing into a number of parked cars, “The Tiger [...]

The worst-kept secret in the local concert scene recently has been made official, at least according to the Ryan Creek Meadow blog: the Black Crowes will perform a concert at the outdoor venue east of Missoula on Sept. 1. This one’s been swirling around out there ever since Pollstar and the band mentioned it on their Web sites several weeks ago, but until now there wasn’t any detailed info. There’s still not much information available (no actual press release has gone out); but the most important facts — ticket price and onsale date — are there on the blog: [Read More...]
