Walk like an Egyptian

October 28th, 2009 · No Comments

This Saturday is, of course, Halloween; and there are about a billion things going on in town, most of them involving conspicuous costumery. Still, the best costumes won’t be found at the bars; instead, they’ll be on screen at the Roxy Theatre, where the Metropolitan Opera’s “Live in HD” series continues with Verdi’s “Aida,” the most spectacular of operatic spectaculars…

The New York Metropolitan Opera’s acclaimed series The Met: Live in HD continues at the Roxy Theater in Missoula on Saturday, October 31st at 7:30 p.m.

Missoula, MT (October 26th, 2009) –  The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera’s popular, award-winning series of live transmissions in movie theaters around the world, continues its series of nine opera transmissions at the Roxy Theater, on Higgins Ave. in downtown Missoula with Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida.

Aida, staged in Ancient Egypt and one of Verdi’s final operas, has something for everyone: Dramatic large chorus scenes as well as choreographed ballet numbers (newly staged for this production), together with fascinating backstage interviews with the singers, choreographer, and extras.  This production is a must-see for anyone interested in seeing the complete picture of how a world class lyric opera theater works.  Violeta Urmana stars in the title role of the enslaved Ethiopian princess, with Dolora Zajick as her rival.  Johan Botha plays Radamès, commander of the Egyptian army, and Daniele Gatti conducts. Among the score’s highlights is the celebrated Triumphal March.

Tickets for individual shows as well as season passes can be purchased at any GrizTix outlet, griztix.com or by phone at (406)-243-4051.  For complete information on dates and tickets visit www.morrisproductions.org
