I received word this morning that mish-mash artist Girl Talk has changed the date of his upcoming Missoula date at the Wilma Theatre. The concert is now scheduled for May 29 — a day earlier than previously announced. Tickets purchased for May 30 will still be honored, there’s no need to exchange them. No word from the promoter as to whether they’ll offer refunds to anyone who can’t make it on the new date; but their contact info is below in the press release announcing the new date:

I received a call this morning from Bruce Micklus, owner of Rockin Rudy’s, who had a sad tale to tell regarding the recent rumors of a Missoula show by the ascending rap superstar Wiz Khalifa (whose face graces the current cover of Rolling Stone). [Read More...]

On Sunday night, MCT Community Theatre wrapped up its two-week run of Gilbert & Sullivan’s satirical operetta, “The Mikado,” with a frolicking performance at its home theatre on East Broadway in Missoula.
On Monday morning, MCT executive director Michael McGill set about the hard business of mending all that had gone awry over the weekend, when word spread across the Internet that MCT’s production advocated the beheading of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
What began with a single letter to the editor, published in last Friday’s Missoulian, quickly erupted into a nationwide controversy after dozens of political bloggers picked up the thread and ran with it – some adding their own colorful amendments to the story. [Read More...]

Apparently yesterday morning, an errant driver ran into the traffic signal box at the tri-way corner of Orange, Front, and Main Streets in downtown Missoula. Thing is, this wasn’t just any ol’ signal box; it was one of several included in last year’s first round of the Public Art Committee’s traffic signal box [...]

I’d heard over the weekend about a schedule screw-up that forced the cancellation of “The Doppelganger,” an original “noir radio play” by Missoula writer Kaet Morris that was scheduled to take place at the Top Hat on Saturday as part of the local celebration of “The Big Read.”
Today, I received a copy of an apology sent to the Missoulian by the Top Hat management; I share it here. [Read More...]

One of my fellow newsies forwarded a link to this amazing rant written by a certain Douglas Britt, the visual art and society reporter at the Houston Chronicle. It seems Mr. Britt has grown tired of creative types getting creative in how they communicate with him. If they’d just stick to the system and follow “simple instructions,” it would make everything better! Unfortunately, those “simple instructions” come in the form of a rambling, 1,400-word screed that I, for one, would have a hard time following even if I had to. It’s worth a cursory read, but only in the same way that a train wreck is worth craning your neck to see as you drive by.
Yet there’s definitely a part of me that sympathizes with Mr. Britt’s plight. [Read More...]

Fans of Chevelle will have to wait a little longer to “Send the Pain Below.” Concert promoter Jade Presents announced on Wednesday that the Illinois-based heavy-rock trio has postponed its June 25 concert at the Wilma Theatre.
Citing “unforeseen issues in their tour schedule,” Chevelle has rescheduled its Missoula appearance for August 26. The concert will take place at the Wilma Theatre. [Read More...]

Apparently quite a number of community members have been up in arms about the $1 service fee added to the price of tickets to the International Wildlife Film Festival by GrizTix. Nevermind that every professional ticketing system in the country charges ticketing fees, or that $1 is way lower than any fee I’ve seen in recent years (Ticketmaster typically adds upwards of $15 to every ticket it sells); apparently this has turned into a full-blown “debacle,” according to a note I received from IWFF festival director Janet Rose.
On Sunday, she sent out a letter addressed to the entire community. I reproduce it here in full; but the short of it is, the IWFF is absorbing the $1 fee by lowering ticket prices immediately. [Read More...]

Just got word that Los Lonely Boys have canceled this week’s Missoula show, citing “medical reasons.” According to the Web site of Knitting Factory Presents, which produced the show, “Ticketfly tix bought on line or by phone will be auto refunded. Return Rockin Rudy’s tix to the store.”

Someone left me a voicemail this morning claiming that I made a mistake in yesterday’s front-page story about a wooden yak. “Female yaks aren’t called yaks,” the caller, who didn’t identify herself, said. “They’re called dris.”
This was news to me, so I checked, and sure enough, it’s true…in Tibet.
But in the [...]
