Wednesday night, I sat down in the auditorium at MCT Community Theatre to witness their production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Still buzzing from the high of witnessing, just one night before, an historic election that even I never expected to see in my lifetime – the election of a president of color in a nation that only half a century ago was rent by institutionalized racism – I found myself drawn into one of the oldest and most familiar stories in the western world, interpreted through the mind of a British musician writing at the very time when the American civil rights movement was grappling with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
